Shannon Smith, P.A.
A good hometown heroine is hard to find, but Shannon Smith makes the cut. Raised in Anchorage, Ms. Smith is a Service High graduate who spent her summers working at a hardware store and driving forklifts. Are you having trouble remembering the name of that tool at the bottom of your toolbox? Bring it in, and Ms. Smith will identify it!
The ever-smiling Ms. Smith was greatly influenced to become a medical provider by her own pediatrician, Dr. Tower, who was one of the first doctors at APG. "He could wiggle his ears, and I thought that was so cool!" remembers Ms. Smith. She attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, earning a B.S. in Biology. While most of us would be quite satisfied with one college degree, the overacheiving Ms. Smith earned two more degrees in her P.A. program at Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia: a B.S. in Sports Medicine and a B.S. in Medical Science.
Although Ms. Smith happily served the community of Peterstown, West Virginia for four years as a Physician Assistant, she was unable to resist Alaska's siren song, and returned to Anchorage in 2001 to join the staff at APG. "I grew up here. Is there no better place to live?" Obviously not.
While Ms. Smith enjoys all aspects of pediatric care, she is especially experienced in female health care involving gynecological exams and preventative care.
Ms. Smith's favorite part of being a healthcare provider? "I know it's such a generic answer, but I love getting to know the kids and their families, and having the opportunity to help them."
Her interests? Outdoor activities, especially flyfishing and camping. Spending time with her friends, family, and one great black lab named Piper.
